It seems unbelievable, a simple bundle of fake notes can cause serious discussions. It does not mean that you are particularly able to compete with your family, the game was specially created for this purpose.

The origins of Monopoly go back to 1903, when Elizabeth Maggie invented “The Landlord’s Game” in order to create a game that reflects her political ideology. Maggie was an advocate of Georgian, and she asserted that people should only own those goods that they produce for themselves, and that any natural resource belongs to society.

The Landlord’s Game was designed to demonstrate the threat of monopoly and private land ownership. In 1934 Charles Darrow designed a Monopoly game based on Maggie. In the board game there is only one winner, and the rest will be hit by goals. Hence, ending Monopoly seems very difficult because once all property has been purchased, the winner is actually decided, and it is only a matter of time until it ends with the rest of the opponents.

Monopoly game details

Monopoly is a classic, easy-to-play board game that can be played by 2-8 players. So you must avoid bankruptcy in order to become the richest player to play to win this game.

Basic principles of the game:

  • Number of players: from 2 to 8 players.
  • Approximate duration of the game: 60-120 minutes.
  • Recommended minimum age: 8 years.
  • Type: board game.
  • Gender: It doesn’t matter.
  • Brand: Hasbro, an American company.

Game components:

  • It is a paper plate.
  • Two dice.
  • Special tokens or pieces for each player.
  • 32 homes and 12 hotels.
  • 16 lottery tickets and 16 community box cards.
  • 28 title cards each.
  • Banknotes (fake).

Game instructions

  • Place the board on a table. He put the cards from the lottery box and the community box upside down in the spaces reserved for her on the board.
  • Each player chooses a piece to represent them as they move across the board.
  • Each player is awarded 1500 coins divided as follows:

2 × 500, 2 × 100, 2 × 50, 6 × 20, 5 × 10, 5 × 5, 5 × 1

The bank:

Select someone either inside or outside the game to work for the bank. If this person also plays with you, they should keep their personal funds separate from the bank’s money.

The bank has to perform a series of functions:

  • The bank pays salaries and bonuses.
  • The bank collects all taxes, fines, loans, interest, and prices for all real estate it sells and auctions.
  • The bank cannot fail, in case the bank runs out of money the bank can issue what is necessary by writing on any regular paper.

Game rules:

Starting at the starting point, each player rolls the dice. The player with the highest number starts playing.

Each player places their token in the corner marked “Launch”, rolls the dice and moves the number of distances indicated by the dice.

Tokens remain in occupied spaces move and move from that point on in the role of the next player.

Two or more players can be tiles in the same space at the same time.

If one or both dice roll from the board, fall or settle on a deck of cards, the roll is invalid. They must be thrown again.

The 200, however, is only paid one time at a time around the board. If the player passes the exit on the roll of the dice and lands two spaces behind him in the “community box”. Take the “go to the exit” card and get 200 for going through it the first time and another 200 to get to it the second time by following the instructions on the card.

Real estate purchase:

When you land on a property that is not yours, you can buy that property from the bank at its printed price.

After that, you must receive the title deed card that shows the property.

If you do not want to buy the property, the bank will auction it to the highest bidder. The buyer pays the bank the offer amount in cash and receives the title deed card for this property.

Any player, including the one who rejected the option to buy at the printed price, can start bidding at any price.

Pay the rent:

When you land on a property owned by another player, the owner charges the rent according to the list printed on his card.

If the property is mortgaged, your title card is placed face down in front of the landlord and the landlord cannot collect the rent.

It’s an advantage to have all the title deed cards in one color block because the landlord can then charge double the rent for the unimproved properties in that color set. This rule applies to properties that are not mortgaged even if another property is mortgaged in that color group.

It is better to have homes or hotels in real estate because the rents are much higher.

Note: The landlord cannot collect the rent if he does not request the rent before the next player rolls his die.

Lottery and Community Fund:

When you land on any of these spaces, take the top card from the indicated surface and follow the instructions on the card.

Place the card face down again at the bottom of the deck.

The “free from jail” card is kept until it is used and then returned to the bottom of the deck.


If the player who draws it does not want to use it, he can sell it to another player at a price acceptable to both of them.


When you get to “taxes” just pay what is shown.

the prison:

You land in jail when:

When you are sent to prison, you must “move” directly there and you cannot collect a salary of 200 if you need to go to the exit. Your role also ends when you are sent to prison.

If you are not sent to prison but in the normal course of the game you land in that space, then you are considered to be in “just visiting” and progressing in the usual way in your next turn.

Player Exit from Prison:

Even if you are in prison, you can buy and sell real estate, homes, hotels and collect rents.

  1. Pay 50.
  2. Waiting for 3 turns.
  3. Use the free prison exit card.

Free parking:

This is just a “free” resting place, so the player who lands on it does not receive money, property, bonus or penalty of any kind.

Try to avoid coming here early in the match, although it could be a great goal later on.

Homes and hotels:

When a player has all the properties in a colorful group, he can purchase houses from the bank.

You can buy as many homes as your intuition and financial position allows, but you cannot build more than one house on any property in any color group until you build a house on every property in that group.

The rate you must pay the bank for each home appears on your title card for the property on which you are building the house.

Landlord still charges twice the rent to a discount that lands unimproved property for his full color combination.

When a player has four houses in each property in a full color block, he can buy a hotel from the bank and build it on any property in the color block. You can only build one hotel in the same property.

Shortage of buildings:

When the bank does not have homes for sale, players willing to build must wait for the player to return or sell their homes to the bank before building.

If there is a limited number of homes and hotels available and two or more players wish to buy more than what the bank has, then the homes and hotels will be sold at auction to the highest bidder.

Sale of property:

Your unimproved property, railways, and facilities can be sold to any player as a private transaction for any amount the owner can obtain.

However, properties cannot be sold to another player if the buildings are on any property of that color group.

The buildings must be sold to the bank before the owner can sell any property in that color block.

Homes and hotels can be sold to the bank at any time for half the price paid for them.

Home Loans:

Unimproved real estate can be mortgaged through the bank at any time. The mortgage value is printed on each title deed card.

When properties contain buildings, they must be resold at half the price first.

You cannot collect rent for the mortgaged property or utilities.

To cancel the foreclosure, the landlord must pay the lien amount to the bank plus 10% interest.

When not all properties in the color group are mortgaged, the owner can start buying homes or hotels.

The player who mortgages the property retains his possession and no other player can secure it by removing the mortgage from the bank.

But the owner can sell this mortgaged property to another player at any agreed price and the new owner can cancel the mortgage by paying the mortgage plus 10% interest to the bank.

When the mortgage is not raised at the same time, you must pay 10% interest to the bank when you purchase the property, and if you raise the mortgage later, you must pay the bank an additional 10% interest.


You file for bankruptcy if you owe more than you can pay to another player or the bank.

If your debts are with another player, you must give everything you have to that player.

If you own homes or hotels, you must return them to the bank in exchange for cash amounting to half of the amount paid by them, and this money is delivered to the creditor.

If you have a mortgaged property, you must also hand over that property to the creditor, but the new owner must immediately pay the bank the amount of interest on the loan, which is 10% of the property’s value.

If you owe the bank, and not any other player, more than you can pay, you must hand over all assets to the bank. In this case, the bank immediately sells all real estate, except for buildings, by auction.

Money can only be loaned to a player by the bank (mortgage the property) and no other player can borrow or loan money to another player.

Bankrupt players must withdraw from the game and the winner is the last remaining player in the game!
